PALOMAR KITCHEN - Interior Remodel
Program: Chief Architect

This remodel was for my grandmother. She had the same kitchen for over 30 years, and it was in much need of renovation. When she first bought the house, she could only afford minimal cabinetry and the counter space wasn't well thought out. By moving the refrigerator and pantry, and adding cabinets, her storage space and prep area have greatly increased. The simple shaker-style cabinets were purchased from a local company and were refinished from the dark brown stain to a sage green paint color. We were able to save money by having my family's construction crew refinish the cabinets and by purchasing some of the finishing material ourselves, instead of purchasing trims and fillers, etc. from the supplier. The backsplash tile was not very expensive but has the appearance of being hand-made, because of the undulating surface. Other than the appliances, the whites in the kitchen are all off-white to coordinate better with the traditional style of the rest of the house. This project is a great combination of style, function, and inexpensive workarounds.
